EXPERTISE

Mr. Hazard’s practice focuses on defending management in employment litigation, including race, sex, age, national origin, religious and disability discrimination lawsuits; wage and hour matters; employee benefits and compensation cases; workplace torts; and wrongful discharge claims. In addition, he regularly represents employers in prosecuting and defending claims of trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition and employee raiding.

Mr. Hazard’s cases have ranged from single plaintiff discrimination claims to class and collective actions involving hundreds of class members. He has successfully defended clients in both state and federal courts, as well as in arbitrations, mediations and mini-trials. His experience includes representing the financial services industry in NASD arbitration.

Counseling companies on day-to-day employment issues is an important part of Mr. Hazard’s practice. This includes advising employers on hiring, discipline, and termination decisions; on leave and disability issues; drug testing and workplace safety matters; preserving trade secrets; and employment issues relating to plant closures and mass layoffs. By helping employers develop legally sound and enforceable personnel policies and auditing their existing human resources practices and procedures, Mr. Hazard has assisted many Colorado companies, large and small, in minimizing the risk of employment-related litigation.
